Frequently Asked Questions
How many work hours are in a full-time year?
At 40 hours/week × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours per year for a US full-time employee. Many companies use 2,000 hours as a round number after accounting for holidays.
Does this calculator include overtime?
No, this is a straight-time conversion. For overtime calculations, use our Overtime Pay Calculator.
How do PTO days affect the calculation?
Each PTO day reduces your effective working weeks (5 PTO days = 1 less paid working week if PTO is unpaid). If your PTO is paid, your salary stays the same regardless.
What is a good hourly rate for $50K salary?
At 40 hours/week × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. $50,000 ÷ 2,080 = $24.04/hour. So $24/hour ≈ $50K salary.
Is hourly or salary better?
Hourly employees earn overtime when working >40 hours/week (under FLSA). Salaried-exempt employees do not earn overtime regardless of hours worked. For US workers earning <$58,656/year, FLSA requires overtime eligibility regardless of "salary" title.
